GOA:- Goa ( land of sun and sand, fun and frolic, food and wine ) is situated between Karnataka and Maharashtra, on the north it is bounded by the Terekhol river, on the south and east by Karnataka and on the west by the Arabian sea. Goa is the smallest state of the union of India. It has a area of 3702 sq.km. Goa was formerly a part of the Union erritory of Goa, Daman, Diu. Goa was a colony of the Portuguese rule and so the Portuguese culture has had some influence on it.

Climate : The climatic conditions of Goa are temperate, except during the monsoon, which lasts from June to September. The weather is pleasant and sunny. There are no extremes in temperature, average temperature varies between 25-30 degree C and the average rainfall is approximately 100 inches.

Cities: Some of the major cities of Goa are Panaji city the capital of Goa others are Mapusa, Margao, Vasco-da-Gama, and Ponda.

Festivals : Some Festivals that are celebrated in Goa are the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrated on the 4th day of Bhadarva Shukla-Paksh of Hindu calendar in (August/September). Diwali celebrated between October - November. Shigmoutsav celebrated in March. Christmas celebrated on 25th December. Carnival in the month of February. Easter in March - April. Feast of the Patron saint of Goa St. Francis Xavier on the 3rd of December. Bonderam Festival is celebrated on the island of Divar on the fourth Saturday of the month of August and the 5 day Food and Cultural festival of Goa.

Beaches : Goa is famous for its golden beaches and it's silver sand's. There are a number a beaches in Goa. Some of the most famous beaches in the north of Goa are Anjuna beach, Calangute beach, Candolim beach and the beaches in the south are Colva beach, Benaulim beach, and Palolem beach.

Churches and Temples : Some of the important churches in Goa are The Church of Bom Jesus where the body of St. Francis Xavier lies in a silver casket situated at Old Goa. The tower of the Church of St. Augustine situated on the Holy Hill at Old Goa and the Cross shaped St. Catherine's Cathedral also situated at Old Goa and some of the important Temples in Goa are Shri Santadurga temple situated at Kavalem. Shri Saptakoteeswara Temple situated at Naroa Bicholim. Shri Manguesh temple at Mangueshi in Ponda.

Wild life Sanctuaries : Catigao Wild life Sanctuary near Chaudi in the Taluka of Canacona and the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary located near Molem which is on the way to Belgaum.

Forts : The Cabo de Rama fort in the Taluka of Canacona. The Chapora fort which was built by the Adil Shah of Bijapur and the Aguada Fort which was built by the Portuguese in 1612 A.D. and is currently the Central Jail, it also houses a 19th century lighthouse.

Museums : The Archeological Museum & Portrait Gallery which is situated in Old Goa at the convent of St Francis of Assisi is maintained by the Archeological Survey of India.

Transportation : There are different modes of transportation to travel to Goa. Direct flights operated by Indian Airlines and other private operates are available from from Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and other states. International  flights operated by Air India and other private operators are available from other countries. By road Goa is connected by the National highways NH 4A, NH 17 and NH 17A to all the major towns and States. By rail Goa is connected to other states like Mumbai, Delhi, Rajasthan, Kerala, Bangalore by a broad gauge railway line. For your local transport there are bus services by private bus operators and the government run Kadamba Transport Corporation. Taxis, Rickshaws, Motorcycles are also easily available throughout Goa.

Accommodation's : There are various types of accommodation's available with hotels, resorts mostly situated along the beaches, the tariff of the rooms depends upon the type of accommodation one opts for. To quence your thirst and hunger there are vegetarian restaurant's, non vegetarian restaurant's, and bar's in every nook and corners of all the major cities in Goa. The People of Goa : Goan's are fun and peace loving people. They live in communal harmony with each other, music is their way of life and so there are dance, beat shows through out the year except during the 40 days of Lent.
